Why I Focus on the Spleen

When people think about beauty, they often think about the skin. But in Chinese Medicine, we rarely start there. We look deeper — at what is creating the skin, the energy behind it, and the systems responsible for nourishment and repair. And almost every time, we come back to the same place: the Spleen.

🌿 What the Spleen Actually Does

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Spleen is responsible for:

  • transforming the food you eat into usable energy

  • creating Blood (which nourishes your skin, hair, and tissues)

  • managing fluids in the body

  • supporting digestion and absorption

  • holding things in place (preventing sagging, heaviness, puffiness)

It’s essentially the system that turns nourishment into something your body can actually use.

✨ Why This Matters for Your Glow

Your skin doesn’t operate on its own.

It relies on:

  • proper digestion

  • steady energy production

  • circulation of nutrients and fluids

When the Spleen is strong, you often see:

  • brighter, more even skin

  • natural radiance

  • better tone and elasticity

  • less puffiness

When it’s struggling, it can show up as:

  • dull or tired-looking skin

  • puffiness or swelling

  • breakouts or congestion

  • dryness or lack of vitality

This is why surface-level approaches only go so far. If the body isn’t producing and distributing nourishment properly, the skin reflects that.

🌿 The Spleen & Digestion

At the core of Spleen health is digestion. Not just what you eat — but how well your body is able to transform it.

When digestion is weak, you might notice:

  • bloating

  • gas

  • loose stools

  • heaviness after eating

  • low appetite or inconsistent hunger

This creates what we call Dampness in Chinese Medicine — a kind of internal heaviness that can affect both the body and the skin.

✨ The Spleen & Energy

Your energy is directly tied to your Spleen.

When it’s supported, you feel steady, grounded, and clear.

When it’s not:

  • fatigue becomes common

  • motivation drops

  • everything can feel like more effort than it should

This is often the kind of tiredness that sleep doesn’t fully fix.

🌿 The Spleen & Longevity

Longevity isn’t just about living longer — it’s about how well your body sustains itself over time.

The Spleen plays a central role in this by:

  • consistently creating energy

  • maintaining tissue health

  • supporting recovery and repair

  • preventing accumulation (Dampness, stagnation)

When this system is supported, the body ages more gracefully.

✨ Why I Focus Here in Practice

In my work, I often see that when we support the Spleen:

  • digestion improves

  • energy stabilizes

  • the nervous system begins to regulate

  • the skin naturally becomes more vibrant

This is why even in treatments that appear “cosmetic,” we’re always working deeper. Because real, lasting change doesn’t come from the surface. It comes from how well the body is functioning underneath it.

🌿 What Weakens the Spleen

In today’s world, the Spleen is often under constant strain.

Things like:

  • eating on the go

  • cold or raw foods in excess

  • chronic stress

  • overthinking

  • irregular routines

All of these can weaken digestion and disrupt the body’s ability to process and transform nourishment.

✨ How to Begin Supporting It

This doesn’t need to be complicated. Simple shifts can make a meaningful difference:

  • prioritizing warm, cooked foods

  • slowing down when you eat

  • creating more consistency in your routine

  • reducing overstimulation and stress

  • supporting digestion gently (not aggressively)

🌿 A Different Approach to Beauty

When you support the Spleen, you’re not chasing glow. You’re creating the conditions for it.

You’re building:

  • stronger digestion

  • better energy

  • more stable internal balance

And from that, the glow follows. This is why I come back to the Spleen again and again. Because when it’s supported, everything else becomes easier.

Your body feels more stable. Your energy feels more reliable. Your skin begins to reflect that.

Not through force — but through function.
